The star has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the UK's grassroots live music spots.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his third album People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

He has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages had in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I did around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from water damage, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues received financial assistance in improving amenities and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to contribute his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

When the band earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer the singer declared that the group would give their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist split her award between a few charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, they contributed their winnings to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year M People donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected two grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by a national body and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
