An individual who contaminated sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She said Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
